let’s get physical, physical
There used to be a time when I could eat to my stomach’s content (or even beyond), and I wouldn’t — nay, couldn’t — gain a pound. Life was good. But then a day came when the after-dinner pooch didn’t go away. I used to look forward to the moment in a meal where you’d slink back in resignation and loosen up your trousers by undoing that button. It’s a lot less satisfying, however, when that button decides it’s had enough, and heads for the floor.
I’ve decided it’s time for a change. And here’s what I’m gonna do about it:
- Swimming
Austin has over 40 public pools, and many of them are free! It’s the perfect summer workout. And to show I’m serious, I even bought a Speedo. But don’t worry; this one goes down to my knees. - Biking
Everyone bikes here. I’ve been here a month now, and I’ve only filled my car up once! Forget about exercise; that’s a good feeling. - Running
This one will be the hardest. Running (for the sake of running) is sort of new to me. I like it a lot, but it’s all too easy to find a reason not to. - Yoga
I’ve never tried yoga before, but I wanna challenge myself. There are several free yoga classes here in town, so I have no excuse not to give it a try.
Yesterday was my most ambitious effort yet. I ran four miles, and later biked downtown. I hadn’t run in a while, so I had very low expectations. There’s some decent hills here too, which I like a lot. And did I mention it was 101 degrees outside?
Feel free to ask me how I’m doing. Or, better yet, ask my button.
