blogbert Let's not take this too seriously.

let’s get physical, physical

There used to be a time when I could eat to my stomach’s content (or even beyond), and I wouldn’t — nay, couldn’t — gain a pound. Life was good. But then a day came when the after-dinner pooch didn’t go away. I used to look forward to the moment in a meal where you’d slink back in resignation and loosen up your trousers by undoing that button. It’s a lot less satisfying, however, when that button decides it’s had enough, and heads for the floor.

I’ve decided it’s time for a change. And here’s what I’m gonna do about it:

  • Swimming
Austin has over 40 public pools, and many of them are free! It’s the perfect summer workout. And to show I’m serious, I even bought a Speedo. But don’t worry; this one goes down to my knees.
  • Biking
Everyone bikes here. I’ve been here a month now, and I’ve only filled my car up once! Forget about exercise; that’s a good feeling.
  • Running
This one will be the hardest. Running (for the sake of running) is sort of new to me. I like it a lot, but it’s all too easy to find a reason not to.
  • Yoga
I’ve never tried yoga before, but I wanna challenge myself. There are several free yoga classes here in town, so I have no excuse not to give it a try.

Yesterday was my most ambitious effort yet. I ran four miles, and later biked downtown. I hadn’t run in a while, so I had very low expectations. There’s some decent hills here too, which I like a lot. And did I mention it was 101 degrees outside?

Feel free to ask me how I’m doing. Or, better yet, ask my button.

      and so it begins…

If you’re reading this (and I know that you are), welcome. I’ve finally decided that my unspectacular life is worthy of attention. Here you’ll find all the latest updates and detailed summaries of my daily activities. Things like, “Today I had to pee like 15 times!”, and “Man. It’s hot outside.”

In case you forgot whose blog you were on, here’s a photo of me being risky:

So, come back often. If I have to tell you something that I’ve already blogged about, I’m going to be very upset. I expect you to follow this so closely that there will be no need to keep in touch any longer. Maybe then I can get some work done.
